The illusion of defusing the social bomb

However, if we are going to crowd into stores, especially department stores, to buy clothes that we probably won't wear anywhere because the 9-5 curfew is here to stay, it would be better to take the risk and demand something better. Let me explain. I am the last person who would ask people, «Why are you shopping?» because I used to be a very materialistic person myself, and of course, stores need to survive. However.

We have been living for some time now under the shadow of a pandemic that has cost the lives of thousands of people in every country around the world and which seems to be worsening due to mutations and terrible mismanagement. At the same time, medicines are essentially non-existent and vaccination is proceeding at a snail's pace, which is dangerous for many reasons. In addition, we basically have neither primary healthcare nor public transport suitable for avoiding crowding.

Under these circumstances, and with the expensive media praising government policies, it is certain that the situation of “restricted freedoms” will continue with many ups and downs. Some shops will open, others will close, we will not take off our masks until my generation is ready to wear dentures, we will stay at home in the evenings because there is nothing to consume that would allow us to go out, while we will send SMS messages to move around without any real reason.

With these measures, the police will be present at universities, Orwellian-inspired laws on demonstrations and labor will be passed, and the noose around our necks will tighten more and more.

So if we are going to go out, let's not be moving consumer puppets who are only let off the leash to spend money or work. Let's go out and demand better public health, real policies to stop the virus, humane public transport, meaningful support for those affected, faster vaccinations, everything that will lead us to true freedom.

Why NOT crowd together the threat of a new lockdown due to a third wave and a catastrophe, buying a dress outside the department store and locking yourself in your home at 9 p.m. and reminiscing about past glories while they legislate some new policing of your life in the name of securityis not a relaxation of the lockdown, nor is it freedom. It is an illusion of decompression of the social bomb.
