About six out of ten Greeks are overweight, while Greece is now first in Europe in adult obesity and third in childhood obesity after Spain and Italy. This was revealed by the president of the newly established Panhellenic Association for the Support of People with Obesity «Imeroessa», Kiki Tsiranidou.
The Association organizes seminars for children on proper nutrition in collaboration with well-known chefs to tackle childhood obesity in Greece, as well as seminars on the bullying of obese children.
The Panhellenic Association for the Support of People with Obesity «Imeroessa», was founded in February 2020 and is based in Thessaloniki, but is addressed throughout the country.
The president of the association, Kiki Tsiranidou says that these people do not want to leave the house. That is why the association has contacted a large company, which will help them to find a job with all the conditions.
«And that, apart from helping their financial situation, which is a major factor in obesity, helps their socialization a lot,» he notes.
He said that medicines for adults are already available to help fight obesity and weight loss, however they are not yet prescribed and as he says «the association is going to intervene to get them on the prescription».
The 45% of obesity is in the Aegean and Crete
