In a press release, the Municipal Party «First the People» asks the Municipal Authority to promote the preparation of a holistic study for the development of the island. Read below:
Kythera, 23 February 2022
On the occasion of the fragmentary approvals and the allocation of funds for the promotion of tourism in Kythera - Antikythera and which were made at the last meeting of the Economic Committee, our Party reiterates the unanimous request of all tourism operators on the island concerning the much discussed and constantly postponed Study-Research-Analysis and Strategy for the overall promotion of Tourism (Market research, planning and strategy) which must be prepared immediately and as a priority by an experienced Tourism Marketing Company.
Global competition no longer leaves any room for yet another sketchy, casual and «empirical» management of such a complex and strategically important «product» both for our islands and for the country as a whole. The choices that are now being made are of critical importance for all of us. The model of tourism is changing, tourists are looking for new experiences, alternative forms of entertainment, quality services and a «pure» acquaintance with the local character and authenticity of each place.
Therefore, the necessity of this «Study - Guide», on which all the policies concerning life on the island and the factors of its upgrading must be based, must become a possession and a collective consciousness for all of us - and especially for those who decide on the course of this place. Infrastructure projects, primary sector, transport, trade, promotion of historical and monumental sites, insularity, health structures and much more.
The findings of this Study should be the compass for the development of a targeted long-term strategy, which, in combination with the promotion of the unique characteristics of Kythera, will be the safe guide for a productive and effective promotion in the media.
We therefore call upon the Municipal Authority, without further delay, to accept the request of the «Association of Kythera Accommodation Owners» and to proceed with the funding for the preparation of this Study.
The undersigned Municipal Councillors
Stylianos the Great, Nicholas Magoulas,
Kalligeros Ioannis, Georgilas Paraskevas, Chrysafitis Nikolaos
