Possible double payment of ENFIA in October to facilitate taxpayers

The possibility is being considered that the taxpayer - property owner may be able to transfer, without penalty, the payment of the September instalment to the end of October, when he will pay a double instalment.

The possibility to transfer the payment of the first instalment of the ENFIA, scheduled for the end of September, it appears that the 6.3 million property owners will have their property payments. This possibility was not only not denied, but implicitly, but clearly, confirmed by the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras.

As he stressed, speaking to ERT3, his first approach is to allow the citizen to pay the 1st installment of the tax either on September 30 or October 31 along with the 2nd installment.

He noted in addition, «we will evaluate it as needed as we get closer to the end of the month.».

This decision seems to be taken because September is a month with many tax obligations, after the successive extensions given to the submission of the tax returns.

Today is the last day that taxpayers - those who have not paid the July and August instalments - have to pay two instalments of income tax. And by September 30, this month's installment must be paid.

Consequently, the possibility is being considered, with serious possibilities, of adopting to allow the taxpayer - property owner to transfer, without penalty, the payment of the September instalment to the end of October, when he will pay a double instalment.

The ENFIA notices will start to be posted on myaade.gov.gr next Monday, September 20 and is expected to be completed within the week.

The total amount that the Ministry of Finance will ask taxpayers is about 2.5 billion and the tax will be paid in 6 instalments with the last one to be paid at the end of February, while the calculation of ENFIA will have no differences with last year.

However, it is estimated that there will be more of them, the number of which will reach 1.5 million, who will pay reduced or zero ENVIA because their incomes were reduced due to the pandemic in 2020.

Of course, there are also the cases of those who either acquired or sold properties in 2020, so the ENFIA will be different from the one they paid last year.
