Tasos Nerantzis, founding member of the Southwestern Democratic Party, died

Condolences from members of the New Democracy for the death of Tasos Nerantzis.

Ο Tasos Nerantzis, Member of Parliament for many years - and a founding member of the New Democracy, passed away at the age of 77.

Tasos Nerantzis was born on 3 October 1944 in Nice of Piraeus. He studied law at the University of Athens and practiced law.

He was the Greek Junior Champion in the table tennis in 1958, with ChAN Nice. He was a founding member of the New Democracy and was elected for the first time as a deputy in the B Piraeus region with the same party in the 1974 parliamentary elections.

He was re-elected in November 1989, and in 1993. Since then he was continuously re-elected until the June 2012 elections. He has served as Secretary General and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament as well as a member of the committee for the revision of the Constitution and the committee of inquiry on Siemens.. By 2014, it was chairman of the Parliament's Committee on Institutions and Transparency.

In the government of Constantine Karamanlis he served as Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication (10 March 2004 - 15 February 2006) and Deputy Minister of Development (15 February 2006 - 19 September 2007). He was married to Eleftheria Leli.

«The family of New Democracy sadly bids farewell to one of the founding members of the party, Tasos Nerantzis. In his long political career and from all the party and government positions and public offices he served, Tasos Nerantzis showed ethics, diligence and consistency. For his commitment to these principles, the citizens of the 2nd Piraeus elected him 9 times to represent them in the Parliament. To his family I express my deepest condolences’, said the Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
