D. Papastergiou: «Christmas without lights can't happen»

Optimistic that this Christmas can meet the targets of saving on electricity, without losing the spirit of optimism of the season, appeared, with statements on state television, the mayor of Trikkaion and president of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece.

The view that «Christmas without lights in all Greek cities, can not be done», expressed the president of the K.E.D.E. and mayor of Trikkaion, Dimitris Papastergiou.

Papastergiou, who was speaking on ERT's morning news programme, said that «Christmas is a magical time, but there are no magic solutions». Regarding measures that can be taken or have already been taken, he said that «many municipalities have now switched their lighting to LED», while he stressed the need to reduce the time during which lighting will be on during the night. In this way, he said, «we will not only have savings of 10%, as we agreed with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior, but we will have much more. Therefore, we will also have Christmas and look for the optimism that is so lacking in these times and we will more than meet the savings target required,» he added.
