Pope Francis said that the burning of the Koran caused him anger and disgust and that he condemns and rejects the fact that this action was allowed as a form of free speech.
«Any book that is considered sacred should be respected so that those who believe in it can be respected,’ the Pope said in an interview published today by the United Arab Emirates» Al-Ittihad newspaper. «I feel anger and disgust at these acts.’.
«Freedom of speech must never be used as a means to despise others, and to allow it is rejected and condemned.».
A man tore up and burned a copy of the Koran last week in Stockholm, which was condemned by states. While the Swedish police had several recently rejected requests for anti-Quran demonstrations, courts overturned those decisions, ruling that they violated freedom of speech.
