With a new intervention the Municipal Combination «All Together - Kythira - Antikythera» and the leading candidate for mayor point out the serious water supply problems that plague the settlements and ask the «outgoing» Mayor instead of joking to ask for an apology from citizens. Read on:
PRESS RELEASE
“ALL TOGETHER KYTHIRA-ANTIKYTHERA‘
We expect an apology from the outgoing Mayor for the water supply problems.
Water supply problems continue in many villages of Kythera, even though we are in the heart of the tourist season. Residents and visitors are often faced with either long water supply interruptions, or other problems such as water quality (cloudy) or low pressure (Diakofti etc.). These unfortunately threaten our island with negative publicity at the same time that the professionals of Kythera - Antikythera are doing their best to satisfy all visitors.
The outgoing Mayor Mr. Harhalakis along with his colleagues a few days ago was happily photographed in front of the desalination plant in Diakofti, a necessary but insufficient project in itself. Instead of responding to the justified complaints of the residents and the complaints of our faction about the problematic water supply, yesterday he chose to joke saying that «the Mayor is also to blame for the rain».
In a statement the candidate for Mayor Zacharias Souris notes:
«We expect from the outgoing mayor at least an apology for the continuous shortages or for the inappropriate water coming out of the taps. We all know that the boreholes are not yielding the required quantities of water and the underground supplies are not inexhaustible. In his nine years as mayor, Mr. Harhalakis has not been able to provide permanent solutions that would ensure water sufficiency.
The serious issues of our country need above all strategic planning, timely response, reliable solutions and not last-minute sloppy solutions;
Our citizens, however, have both memory and judgment. That is why they will give him the required answer in the forthcoming elections.’.
