Researchers found traces of explosives in the damaged gas pipes. Nord Stream, confirming that it happened sabotage, announced a Swedish prosecutor involved in the investigation.
The authorities in Sweden and Denmark are investigating four holes in the pipes Nord Stream 1 and 2, who connect the Russia with the Germany via the Baltic Sea.
Last month, Denmark announced that preliminary research showed that Leaks were caused by powerful explosions.
«The analysis that was carried out showed traces of explosives in several of the items where recovered», according to a statement by the Swedish Prosecutor's Office.
«The investigation is very complex and comprehensive. Ongoing investigation will determine whether suspects can be identified», it is added.
A few days before the leak to Nord Stream natural gas pipelines and Nord Stream 2 two ships with disabled them radio beacons appeared in three-mile distance from the points where the natural gas pipelines are located. According to analysis by satellite data monitoring company SpaceKnow, the two «dark» ships, 95 to 130 meters long each, passed into several miles away from the leak sites Nord Stream 2. «We spotted some obscure ships, i.e., vessels of considerable size, passing through the area of interest,» said Jerry Yavornitsky, CEO and co-founder of SpaceKnow. «They had location sensors disabled them, meaning there was no information about their movements, and they tried to keep information about their location and general information about themselves hidden from the world,» adds Yavornitsky.
The ships were located after analyzing photographs taken by several satellites.
Once SpaceKnow had identified the ships, it shared its findings with NATO officials investigating the incidents at Nord Stream. According to Yarovetsky, NATO representatives requested additional information from the company.
Strong underwater explosions in the area
On September 26, gas leaks were detected in two sections of the Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline in Denmark's exclusive economic zone, northeast of the island of Bornholm. Subsequently, a leak occurred in one of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline lines in Denmark's exclusive economic zone southeast of the island. Seismological stations in Sweden and Denmark recorded strong underwater explosions in the same area.
The Russian Ministry of Defense had announced that the British Royal Navy «participated in the planning, provision, and execution of a terrorist attack in the Baltic Sea on September 26 to undermine the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipelines.».
