In a communication of Kythera.News with the councillor and representative of the faction «We live here», Mr. Manos Trifylli, it was reported that the company that prepared the «necessity and feasibility study», did not take into account that the area of expansion of the runway has been classified as Natura 2000 and even put forward as an excuse that «the Municipality did not inform the Municipality.» Mr. Trifillis even went a step further, saying that the entire area of the airport falls under the Natura 2000 category and therefore, according to the logic of the Ministry of Environment, the airport should be closed.
In detail, the question of the municipal faction «We live here» to the mayor of Kythera:
«Mr. Mayor,
On the occasion of your visit to the Attica Regional Governor and your failure to refer to the burning issue of runway extension and modernization of Kythera Airport, we are submitting a written question.
1) Given that in the budget of the Region there was an appropriation of 400 thousand euros for the final study of the extension of the corridor based on the preliminary study prepared in the previous period.
Given your information at a meeting at the end of 2019 that the procedures are progressing , but we have reached the end of 2020 with no progress.
We ask for detailed information on the delay in the assignment of the study, your proposals for solving any problems that occur and attribution of responsibility to those who are responsible respectively for the damage suffered by our island from the unacceptable regressions of those responsible.
2) In the new call for tenders for the lean air routes to be launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, did you succeed in getting Kythera included in the list? Given the financial collapse of the airlines due to the pandemic, our inclusion in the barren list is critical.
Please provide the relevant correspondence from the municipal authority to the CAA , and the corresponding replies.
