Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a television message after the incidents in Nea Smyrni. The Prime Minister called for restraint and composure and said that blind anger leads nowhere.
At the same time, he noted that the life of a fellow citizen, the young policeman who was in danger, should «wake us up».
The statement of Kyriakos Mitsotakis:
The sad images of violence that we all saw tonight in Athens must be the last. And the life of one of our fellow citizens, the young policeman in danger, should be a wake-up call. In these moments, restraint and composure must prevail in all of us. And I am especially addressing our young people, who are destined to create. Not to destroy.
Blind rage leads nowhere. Unfortunately, some have ignored our warnings. And to those who attempt to sow hatred and division in society to cover their own deadlock, as they have done in the past, I say this: On the night of the July 7, 2019 elections, I stressed that I am here to guarantee the unity, security and prosperity of all Greeks. I repeat this now. I will not allow anyone to divide us. We will not let anyone turn us back.
