He passed away at the age of 101, the founder and first president of the E.D.E.K. party, Vassos Lyssarides.
Full of days, the doctor, politician and campaigner linked his name to the greatest events of her life Cyprus, but also with the Archbishop Makarios, whose personal doctor he was.
Vasos Lissarides was born in Lefkara on 13 May 1920. He was a member of parliament, president of the House of Representatives, and in 1969 he founded the Socialist Party E.D.E.K., of which he was president until July 2001.
He was an active participant in the struggles of the Union of Cyprus with Greece.
During the bicommunal disturbances in 1963-1964, he led the people's army under the auspices of the Cypriot state, releasing the Pentadactyl. In 1974 resisted the coup of 15 July 1974. On 30 August 1974 he was targeted attempted murder, during which the organisational secretary of the EDEK youth was killed, Doros Loizou.
