Olive oil auctions have made a strong comeback in our country, while this year's olive harvest is beginning to settle into a regular rhythm.
The Zakros Agricultural Olive Oil Cooperative has reached a commercial agreement for the sale of 20 tons of extra virgin olive oil PDO Sitia Lasithi, from last year's harvest (2023–2024) with an acidity of 0.5.
As he mentioned in agrotypos Mr. Konstantinos Kekkeridis, president of the Zakros Agricultural Olive Oil Cooperative, «The olive oil was sold to traders at a price of €8.591 per kilogram. It will be sold on the Saudi Arabian market. We sent samples of the olive oil and they showed interest and sent an offer for the tender. My assessment is that we will see a positive trend in olive oil prices.
The olive harvest has begun as usual in our region. A heatwave during the fruit setting period led to a reduction in production. Most olive groves are irrigated, and we expect to have a harvest, although it will be lower than last year's. However, dry olive groves throughout the country will have reduced production. Our olive oil is of good quality and has PDO certification from Sitia, Lasithi.».
