Commando “killing machine”!

He was definitely the toughest, most ruthless, and completely emotionless. commando, of World War II!

He fought on almost every front and mercilessly killed anyone who stood in his way!

Germans and Italians...

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Blair «Paddy» Mayne from Northern Ireland was described as Britain's toughest and most effective commando in the war.

The nickname «Paddy» was the British term for the Irish and a reference to Saint Patrick, patron saint of the island.

The officer's achievements were legendary and reminiscent of those of Rambo, with the difference that they were not the product of a screenwriter's imagination, but rather the reality of a skilled soldier.

What in Hollywood would be called a «killing machine»....

He did not receive any medals for his actions because he was unruly, quarrelsome, a heavy drinker, and in a moment of rage, he beat up his own commander.

FROM LEBANON TO CYPRUS

In 1940, the 25-year-old Mayne enlisted in the newly formed British Army commando corps, joining the elite 11 (Scottish) Commando.

A year later, he took part in his first mission against French forces of the traitorous government of Visy, who fought against the Axis powers, in Lebanon.

Mayne's unit suffered heavy losses during the operation, and among the dead was its commander.

The survivors were transported to Salamina, Cyprus in order to reorganize their unit.

There, Mayne beat up his commander, who had not participated in the operation and said something offensive about the unit.

The result was that Mayne was expelled from the commandos, but then he was recruited by Major David Stirling, founder of the newly formed and elite commando unit. Special Air Service (SAS).

Between 1941 and 1942, Mayne was one of the leading officers in almost all operations behind Italian-German lines....

The main objective of SAS was to destroy the Axis airfields in North Africa.

Mayne is personally credited with destroying 100 enemy aircraft.

The men under his command blew up many Italian-German installations.

Mayne had planned how his commandos would strike in the desert using jeeps.

After Stirling was captured by the Germans in January 1943, Mayne was the most important operational commander of the British commandos against the forces of Rommel.

In 1943, during the Allied landing in Normandy, the Germans were forced to abandon the island of Sicily. Sicily, the unit under Mayne, the Special Raiding Squadron (SRS), caused chaos behind the Italian lines.

Mayne and his men took the Italians by surprise, who were manning four batteries defending the city of Augusta.

They captured all four, and so the Allies, who had just landed, took the city with minimal losses. During the operation, the SRS captured 450 Italian soldiers and killed approximately 200 to 300.

Throughout the operations, Mayne led his men from the front line.

In fact, he single-handedly neutralized the crew of an Italian machine gun that had pinned down his commandos....

NETHERLANDS, BELGIUM, NORWAY, GERMANY

After Sicily, Mayne took command of the 1st SAS Regiment and fought in France, Holland, Belgium, Norway, and Germany.

Mayne completed all the risky missions assigned to him.

His main objective was to strike the Germans from behind with his men, who moved around in jeeps.

In battle, he always fought at the front of his men and thus killed the most Germans.

Nevertheless, Mayne was never wounded, and his men suffered fewer casualties than other commando or paratrooper units.

Although he was widely regarded as perhaps the bravest and most effective officer in the British army, He was never awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest military decoration.

Not only did he deserve it, but other officers who were with him on missions received it.

The reason was never officially disclosed, but it appears to have been due to Mayne's character and behavior when he was not on a mission.

Behind the lines, he was usually quick-tempered and would quarrel with his soldiers over the slightest thing.

As he was very tall, athletic, and rebellious, when he quarreled with his superiors and subordinates, he usually beat them up.

The result was that while all the paratroopers wanted him by their side on combat missions, they avoided him when they were behind the lines.

This wasn't particularly difficult, as Mayne was a solitary type and usually read books in his tent or drank alone in the officers' club....

STYGNOS EXECUTOR

In North Africa, he had a dog that he often carried with him in a backpack.

One day, a senior officer shot the dog to get revenge for insulting him.

When Mayne found out, he beat the officer so badly that he had to be hospitalized.

Mayne himself was placed under arrest until his next mission in the desert. In addition, soldiers who fought alongside him were shocked by the way he killed enemy soldiers with utter coldness.

It is said that during a mission in North Africa, he single-handedly killed 30 German and Italian pilots whom he surprised at an airfield.

Mayne's soldiers described him as executing them like a «professional gangster,» even though some were wounded and had raised their hands to surrender.

After the war, Mayne returned to his homeland in Northern Ireland.

There, he avoided talking about his military exploits and spent most of his time getting drunk in pubs or arguing with his compatriots.

He was killed in a car accident in 1955 when, returning home drunk, he crashed his car into a tractor.

He was 40 years old.

War was his element, and peace was his ghost...
