Tax evasion is a huge problem on the Greek islands in the summer, a fact confirmed by business audits.
During inspections carried out on August 18 and 19 in Andros and Syros, the percentage of businesses found to be in violation of tax evasion or other rules governing the movement of goods exceeded 50%.
In total, inspectors visited 46 businesses and found violations in 26 of them.
The total amount of fines reached €18,000.
Announcement by the Ministry of Development and Investment:
«Extensive inspections of organized beaches and dining areas in Andros and Syros were conducted by inspectors from the Interdepartmental Market Control Unit (DIMEA) of the Ministry of Development & Investment on August 18-19, 2022.
Specifically, 46 inspections were carried out at catering and beach service businesses, and 26 violations were identified relating to non-compliance with the Rules on the Circulation and Marketing of Goods and failure to issue tax receipts.
The total amount of fines amounts to €18,000.
Checks are continuing throughout the country.
