In an extensive statement the Mayor of Kythira Efstratios Charhalakis responds to the complaints of the Municipal Party «All Together» about threatened by him, a resident who complained about the water. Mr. Harhalakis does not refute the complaint, but as he explains «is not a threat»! Accuses the head of the «All Together» party, Zacharias Souris, of adopts false and unsubstantiated reports of alleged water shortages or problems (!) and once again... delivers «law lessons», as far as obviously the alleged threat by a resident of Kythera. But read the Mayor's statement:
Self-appointed defender of the big debtors of the Municipality Mr. Suris and his party!
An indispensable condition for the proper operation of the Municipality's (each Municipality's) services is the payment of debts and bills, in order for these services to cover their high operating costs. That is why they are called contributory services. These are water supply, sanitation and municipal lighting.
In the last 2 months Mr.Souris and his various «parrots» have been extremely discrediting our island, publishing false complaints regarding the water supply, causing the anger of dozens of tourism professionals, whose services are being hurt and discredited by such publications, at a time when the Municipality is making tireless efforts to ensure a smooth water supply, having reduced the problems to a minimum. On the issue of water supply, we will soon and very thoroughly, however, it would be advisable for Mr. Souris not to uncritically adopt whatever anyone writes on social networks, as it has been PROVEN that many reports of alleged water shortages or problems were false and unsubstantiated (e.g. damage to internal networks of the houses for which the Municipality has no responsibility, were presented as the responsibility of the Municipality, etc.).
Most importantly, when someone chooses to subjugate the Municipal Authority in public with unacceptable expressions insulting elected officials and employees, he should at least be consistent with his obligations to the Municipality and not owe thousands of euros to the water supply, at the same time that he blames the Municipality for the water service! This is what common sense and basic morality dictates towards our punctual fellow citizens, who make sure - with effort and struggle - to meet their obligations so that the municipal services can function normally.
Finally, let the author of Mr.Souris« texts be informed that the warning to take legal measures, provided for in the Legislation and the Code of Public Revenue Collection, is NOT a »threat" (even a first year law student knows this). And furthermore, that, our Municipal Authority is the ONLY one that has DONE, not only to claim the collection of debts to the Municipality that have been forgotten for many years, but also to take enforcement measures for systematic defaulters, whose debts were tying up valuable resources for the services provided to the citizens.
Therefore, no lesson in ethics and legality will be accepted from Mr.Souris' faction when the Municipality and its services apply the law, protecting the vast majority of prudent citizens.
