The State Security investigated the attack against the rector of ASOEE, which took place on 29 October 2020. As part of the preliminary examination carried out, the following were identified for the involving 8 people, accused of criminal organisation, common robbery by force and threat of force, unlawful detention with intent to commit an act for which the offender has no obligation, unlawful detention and unlawful violence by common force, common interference with a public authority and common damage to property of another person for the public benefit. The preliminary examination was submitted to the Prosecutor's Office and the case was referred for a main inquiry.
We recall the attack on the rector of ASOEE, Dimitris Bourantonis, when unknown persons hooded men had worn a sign on the neck of the rector of ASOEE and had uploaded his photo on the Internet. The Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, had even put a bounty of €100,000 on the attackers' heads.
The attack against the rector of the ASOEE, Dimitris Bourantonis, had caused shock and disgust and was the occasion for another clash between the government and the opposition, with the former accusing the latter of inadequate security measures at universities. The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, had called an emergency teleconference on the measures to be taken in the institutions, while after the attack on the rector the ASOEE was closed in support of him.
