He was born in Botanikos, Athens. His parents divorced when he was only one year old and he grew up with his mother, while his father was absent from his childhood, as he was exile in Macronissos. She saw him for the first time when she was 12 years old.
His parents wanted him to become a civil engineer or an architect like his father, but he, still a minor, secretly took exams at the National Theatre School. In 1962, as a sophomore at the National Theatre, he played in Manos Hadjidakis' Dream Street, along with Dimitris Horn, Rena Vlahopoulou, Maro Kontou and other renowned artists. He interpreted the song «Every Garden». From then on he began his career in the theatre, but also in the bouquets of the time.
At the same time, he made a few appearances at the cinema, as in the film by Ionas Daifa «The Third Way», starring Maro Kontou. Combining acting and singing, she presented for the first time in Greece a different kind of entertainment consisting of prose, satire, dancing and singing. She performed for almost 20 years (1973-1992) at Makriyannis, at «Medusa». He collaborated with Dimitris Danikas for many years, while his lyrics have been written by Lina Nikolakopoulou, Dimitris Iatropoulos, Stamatis Kraounakis and Nini Zaha. He had a close friendship with Manos Hadjidakis and Nikos Gatsos.
Giorgos Marinos was the first showman of Greece, the man who, with his sketches, his caustic lines and imitations, provoked laughter and satirized the ills of Greek society. In his personal life he was particularly solitary. His two passions were always astrology and his dogs. A few years ago he retired from the artistic scene and isolated himself in his house in Neo Voutzas, an area near Rafina.
He worked for many years on various music stages and theatre stages presenting his creations, while he took part in several TV series, most notably the show Ciao ANT1, in the mid-1990s. A few of his film appearances have also been recorded.
During the last years of his life he had been isolated and had serious health problems.
