Most people possess one or more of the above qualities, but today we are talking about a politically connected figure behind the prime minister, one of the most important members of the government gang, the George Gerapetritis. It is the so-called «shadow prime minister», He is the laundromat for the government's misdeeds, as defined by the duties of the Minister of State. Gerapetritis' impressive resume is a case in point, typical of what we find every time we look for information about the country's political administrators. An illustrious academic career, deep ties to the state, selective connections, powerful backers, money, and a good marriage.
The wife of the Minister of State, Alexandra Gourzi, is also a lawyer and head of legal representation for RAE (Regulatory Authority for Energy). The father-in-law of the Minister of Justice, Michael Gourzis, is Executive Vice President of the GEK TERNA Group and, more generally, since 2002, he has been a senior executive and executive member of the Boards of Directors of TERNA SA and GEK TERNA SA. Although his name has recently been heard in the public sphere due to his inflammatory statements, his involvement in dirty deeds began many years ago. In 2010, he faced criminal charges for offenses related to the Siemens case. which resulted in the squandering of millions of euros of public money. While still on trial, he was appointed Special Secretary of the PASOK government. He was subsequently acquitted by a vote—the official grounds for the acquittal are unknown—and the charges were dropped at the prosecutor's recommendation. At the same time, performing legal duties, he concluded deals between our people and received exorbitant fees.
One of the most striking examples of collusion is the case of VASACO SA, a construction and real estate company. G. Gerapetritis served as its legal advisor when attempted to illegally construct a hotel within the archaeological site of Athens, which was rejected by the Council of State after residents mobilized. Other New Democracy ministers, Georgiadis, Mendoni, and the then Minister of the Environment, Hatzidakis, are also jointly responsible for this case.
