Shops of the supermarket chains «Sklavenitis» and «Market In» visited today the Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiades, as the week recorded a reduction in the prices of products of the «Household Basket».
Following his visit to the two chains, Mr Georgiades said: «We are very pleased. We are very happy. We came here because you had a big reduction from last week and we want to reward those who make good prices to consumers.
The “Household Basket” is in its 21st week of implementation and a new round of price cuts has begun. The difference in the total value of the basket from last week is -2.1%. That's a staggering -2.1% in 7 days.
If we continue at this pace until May, we will have significant differences on the shelves and people will now be able to see that slowly this great pressure created by the war is beginning to be relieved.
However, within the household basket we found milk the same price for 21 weeks, sugar the same price for 21 weeks, chicken the same price for 21 weeks. We found olive oil at a lower price - 5.50 a litre is a shockingly low price for olive oil this year. We found salted cod 8,90 cod variety and of course many other products such as pasta, fruit and so on at reasonable prices.
The battle of inflation continues. The household basket is working. Put your backs into it with your shopping, too, and let's do well.».
Georgiades also visited the market in Vrilissia and said: «We also came to the market today to see the prices here in Vrilissia. Apart from the general gloom about prices, we found really good prices today at the market.
We found onions for the first time under the euro. We found eggplant under 2 euros. We found apples at 1 euro. We found oranges at 0.50 cents, we found strawberries at 3.90 a kilo, 2.5 by the pot. The first ones we found were 2.5 a kilo.
We found very good prices. I'm happy about that. I always tell people: Prefer farmers» markets. People's markets keep prices low and quality high.".
For his part, the president of the Panathian Federation of Traders of Farmers« Markets, Dimitris Mouliatos, stressed: "We warmly thank Minister Adonis Georgiades for being with us to do his own autopsy on prices, but also to watch the reaction of the people, which is positive for the farmers' markets.
I want to say that the whole world of farmers» markets is very pleased and grateful to the minister for ensuring that the markets are functioning very well and that problems are solved every day through his own efforts. We are here for the consumers.".
