Is it possible a tanker that has been seriously damaged by a possible mine in Libya, to be here for a few days off the coast of Gerakario, Kythira, loaded with one million barrels of heavy fuel oil, and transfer to another ship?;
The information available to us indicates that the Greek-managed tanker “Vilamoura”, flag of the Marshall Islands, remains 7.3 nautical miles west-northwest of Kythira, after water ingress into the engine room, possibly due to security incident off the coast of Libya. The point is also located at “Petalidi”, a tanker flying the Liberian flag, apparently sailing in parallel and – according to AIS data – with no specific destination other than the word “ORDERS”.
The photos show the two tankers almost parallel:

If this is indeed the case oil transfer (STS transfer) At sea, and especially from a ship that has suffered serious damage, the reasonable question arises:
👉 How is the security of the process ensured?;
👉 Have the Greek port or environmental authorities been informed?;
👉 Are international protocols and regulations being followed?;
Furthermore, the presence of five tow trucks in the area reinforces the hypothesis that this is sensitive business with increased risk.
It is worth noting that the “Vilamoura” is one of four tankers registered this year with security incidents and all, according to international sources, conveyed Russian oil to countries without sanctions, within the price range of $60/barrel.
It should be noted that Vilamoura, a Suezmax-type vessel with a capacity of 158,000 dwt, suffered water ingress into the engine room between June 28 and 30, 2025 while sailing 80 nautical miles off the coast of Libya. The incident is characterized by the consulting firm Vanguard as a «potential safety incident,» causing serious material damage to the ship, which is managed by TMS and carries a flag Marshall Islands.
