«Today, Sunday, at the height of the holiday season and with high temperatures, many areas of Aegina, Poros, Methana, and the wider Troizinia region were left without power for several hours, while reports indicate that the damage is more severe in the areas of Poros and Methana. Power was gradually restored, but there are no guarantees that the incident will not happen again. Information about the causes and who is responsible is also lacking.
When Hydra was left without electricity in 2018 due to damage to an undersea cable, we, the members of parliament of the then ruling majority, Georgia Gennia, Kostas Douzinas, Eleni Stamataki, and I, immediately and urgently requested the intervention of the relevant ministers, as well as the main responsible body, HEDNO, and supported the protests of the mayor, professionals, residents, and vacationers of Hydra.
Today, with Mr. Mitsotakis's government of the executive state, with the «best» people in the administrations of the responsible organizations and with five New Democracy MPs in the first electoral district of Piraeus and the Islands, one of whom is even a deputy minister, will anyone speak up? Will explanations be given? Will there be guarantees that the electricity supply will continue uninterrupted and that the incident will not be repeated? What about the maintenance and operation of the electricity distribution network on the islands of the Saronic Gulf and the wider area?;
Responses must be immediate, clear, and reliable. No one can be so indifferent to the urgent needs of citizens.
