The Mayor of Kythira, Efstratios Charhalakis, in a post yesterday on social media, asked citizens who dumped bags of bulky waste and rubble in the Livadi parking lot to immediately arrange for their transfer to a bulky waste bin. Tsirigo FM: Recycling bins across the island are overflowing.
The radio station Tsirigo FM published a report on its blog stating that a major problem has arisen recently in Kythira due to the non-collection of recyclable waste, resulting in bins being overflowing for days and citizens being justifiably dissatisfied.
Citing information from Tsirigo FM reports that the problem arose when the recycling vehicle entered the workshop for general repairs, which were completed yesterday, Friday. According to the report, the collection of recyclable waste is expected to begin immediately next week.
In its report, the station also mentions the issue addressed by the mayor in his post:
«Finally, today, Friday, April 8, in the Livadi parking lot, right next to the recycling bins, as you can clearly see in the photo, we saw huge sacks full of rubbish, which should not be there and are causing an obstruction.
In similar cases in the future, it would be advisable to consult and communicate with the president of the respective community or the relevant deputy mayor, so that they can be taken to more suitable locations for disposal.»
