A 14-year-old girl lived moments of terror locked in the toilet of her hotel room in the old town of Chania, when three Americans, members of the crew of the airplane Harry Truman, entered the room with a woman, without even realizing that it was not theirs.
According to neakriti.gr, despite the girl's cries, the Americans, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lay on the bed ignoring her. They were removed a short time later by the hotel owner, who was informed by telephone by the 14-year-old's father.
They were taken to the Police Station where they stayed for one night, but in the morning they were released because of their right to a right of access to justice.
This incredible adventure of the girl happened on Sunday night. The father of the 14-year-old girl came from Athens to Chania to exercise his right to custody of his children. He rented a room in a hotel and at the time of the incident, he had gone out with his son in a local pub. The girl did not want to follow them and preferred to stay alone in the room. She went into the bathroom, luckily taking her cell phone with her and realized that some people were trying to break down the door.
As he said, his child called him in fear. «She was locked in the bathroom, sobbing. She said «daddy come, strangers have entered my room. I speak to them in English, they won't leave, they have laid on the bed.» He described that by the time he ran back to the hotel, he managed to alert the owner who rushed to remove the Americans while simultaneously calling the police.
The woman and one of the sailors managed to escape, while the other two Americans were taken to the Chania Police Department. According to the girl's father, who did not want to talk to them, the sailors kept saying that they were American citizens, and they kept telling the police that they had no right to arrest them. «When I went upstairs my child was in a state of shock. I found him half-naked and terrified locked in the bathroom,» said the father, visibly angry about the incident.
Meanwhile, the mother of the 14-year-old girl, who was informed by her ex-husband about the incident, was in court yesterday to file a lawsuit with the father against the Harry Truman sailors. «Fortunately our daughter was locked in the bathroom. She was yelling at them to leave, she realized they were going to break down the door and she was yelling that they were in the wrong room. But they came in, they lay down and on the bed, they took off their shoes, one even went to the station with a shoe,» the mother said.
Earlier in the day, the Peace Committee of Chania, student associations, organizations and collectives held a protest outside the courts denouncing the incident. The lawyer of the parents of the 14-year-old girl, Manolis Papadomanolakis, denounced the fact that the Americans were released by the Greek police authorities and said that the right of heterodoxy did not apply, but he was not sure about it.
A protest by the KKE
The parliamentary representative of the KKE, Thanasis Paphilis today proceeded to protest to the Ministers of Justice K. Tsiaras and Citizen Protection T. Theodorikako, regarding the unthinkable incident of terrorizing 14-year-old girl by NATO in Chania, but also the treatment of the authorities.
Specifically, as has been reported, on Sunday night, members of the crew of the aircraft carrier Truman, broke into a hotel room in Chania, where a 14-year-old schoolgirl was staying, with the NATO men claiming that they were under the influence of alcohol and confused the rooms and the hotel. The crew members were arrested, under the auto-custody procedure, detained overnight and released the next morning. A protest demonstration was held at the prosecutor's office in Chania by the Peace Committee of Chania, trade unions, student associations of the city and the parents of the student.
Thanasis Paphilis expressed to the ministers the strong protest of the KKE, both for this unacceptable incident, which is added to a series of episodes of bullying behaviour of NATO soldiers in the region, and for the attitude of the authorities and the favourable treatment of the perpetrators.
