Australia: Election of members of the new board of directors of the Greek Community of Melbourne

On Wednesday, February 16, the Election Committee of Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) invited the 19 successful candidates from the most recent Greek Community elections to a meeting at the Hellenic Center.

The meeting was held in accordance with the EKM Statutes, whereby, after a waiting period of nine days, the Election Committee invites the candidates to elect the members of the Executive Committee for the next term of office.

The election of the Community Executive Committee proceeded smoothly with a unanimous voting process, resulting in the following composition:

· President, Vasilis Papastergiadis OAM

· Vice President, Dimitris Bosinakis

· Vice President, Michalis Karamitou

· Vice President, Anthi Sidiropoulo

· Secretary, Nikos Koukouvitakis

· Assistant Secretary, Vicky Kyritsi

· Treasurer, Marini Pyrpyri

· Assistant Treasurer, Mena Giannali

The Election Committee then handed over the reins for the next term to the Board of Directors, after which the Consul General of Greece in Victoria, Emmanouil Kakavelakis, congratulated the new team and wished them all the best for their next term.

Re-elected President Vasilis Papastergiadis said: «It is a great honor to once again chair the Board of Directors of this historic organization and to lead a team that is so enthusiastic about the organization and our community in general. Let's hope that the next term will see us begin to emerge from the shadow of this pandemic, and that we do so with a team that will enthusiastically tackle all the speed bumps and seize all the opportunities we create along the way.».

The EKM Board of Directors has a number of returning members, but also sees an influx of eight new members joining its ranks.

The new members of the Board of Directors, such as Kotsianis, Mena Gianneli, and Vicky Kyritsis, were moved and excited as they prepared to take on the administration of the Greek Community of Melbourne.

Anthi Sidiropoulo: «I am thrilled to be back on the EKM Board of Directors and delighted to be Vice-Chair. I look forward to working with the new Board.».

Finally, long-time education advocate Dr. Nikos Dallas stressed that «investment in education» should be «the cornerstone of the new board's agenda.».
