The Minister for Rural Development of the SY.RIZ.A.-P.S.., St. Arachovitis on Thursday, 26 November, at the meeting of the Standing Committee on Production and Trade, the agenda item of which was the briefing of the Committee members on the Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (PAA/SWOT Analysis), of Greek Primary Production, for the Strategic Plan of the new CAP 2021-2027, praising the particularly valuable and useful work in terms of data collection that includes the SWOT analysis, did not fail to recall that it is a piece of work that came out in an open tender in April 2019, by the SYRIZA Government, by contrasting it with the recentThe New Democracy Government's choice of direct award of a contract with the World Bank.
Then, St. Arachovitis requested a special briefing session on the progress of the new CAP negotiations: “I would like to ask your Committee and the Ministry, Mr. President, to have a discussion on the course of the new CAP, in view of the dialogue that is going on at the moment.”.
The Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs. He also stressed the need to «meaningful grassroots consultation, which will help the Ministry make decisions critical to the course, which has not yet been made, and then it was mentioned «in the ever-changing developments». He added: «What the pandemic has mainly highlighted is the vulnerability of rural income to crises. To health crises, as now, to market crises, to environmental crises. So the targets set in 2018- 2019, the specific targets, the 9+1, are already considered to be outdated and we have to go to another direction».
Concluding his speech, the MEP stressed that: «The big question, from all this analysis that we've seen, but also through the National Strategic Plan is, how these are turned into policies. What will be the big frame? What will be the targeting of that, in terms of all of this that we're analyzing? Why is the SWOT Analysis, is an analysis of reality, an “x-ray” of the moment. Already, with the pandemic, things are changing every day, much faster than we expected. So, we have to put the big frame and subordinate all the others, as tools in the service of the big goal. That's the point.».
