Incredible catch: A 40-kilogram sea trout caught between Antikythera and Gramvousa!

One Man from the Chania which also deals with the fishing refers with absolute satisfaction to his achievement of catching the largest fish that so far he has been caught up in his favorite hobby. He caught himself a bushhopper belonging to the roe family and weighing more than 40 kilos.

Ο George Kazoulis spoke about his achievement on Facebook, stressing among other things that «is one of the most beautiful battles he has experienced to date.».

In post of the Facebook He wrote: «A few words about the story: on Sunday morning at 4:00 am we leave home to reach our distant destination at about 7:00 am. Early morning, very humid, as if a cloud has stuck 10m above the sea. Conditions in which the fish are usually hidden and sluggish. We decide to return to closer spots as the weather forecast was wrong. So we go to a familiar spot where I have lost such a fish 3 times before, the first time 5 years ago. A tuna breaks my crank ball in my ’heavy“ set and I am left without ”heavy“ tackle. The Shout is the most reliable one I have left to use, targeting some bass in the area. One sharp suck and I lose the bait about a foot or so. I think he's a moron, but while I get him 15m and hold it as long as I can he cuts the paramala in his teeth. I say with gear like that it's futile to try again and we cast 50m + next to try again for bass. Exactly the same strike and I pull again as fast as possible giving the whole parabola of the reed. I say maybe I have a chance if the fish isn't too big to get it. A 20 minute battle ensues. Once it appeared on the surface I really couldn't believe my eyes. The fish was one of the biggest I've ever caught. But the way it had left me speechless! Pe 1.5 and 0.43 I kept saying! The fish also had the previous bait in its mouth. Maybe the experience with fish of this species helped a little bit, but really the power these gears have is unbelievable.”.

Ο George Kazoulis speaking to Flashnews, he said: «The fish was caught at a depth of 180m using the jigging technique, between Gramvousa and Antikythera. It is a species of epinephelus caninus (bullhead) of the roach family. It lives at great depths and grows to a much larger size than the roach and the grouper. The fish was caught with very fine tackle, the same tackle I usually use for 3-4 kg fish.».

«I couldn't weigh the fish, such sizes need a crane to lift them whole without touching anything. 43 kilos showed on the scales in an unsuccessful attempt. So it was definitely more than that.», he added.
