The Ministry of Interior has issued a statement clarifying reports on the decision of the Council of State to declare unconstitutional provisions concerning the operation of local authorities.
The decision of the supreme court of annulment concerns specific provisions of 2019 which transferred powers from the municipal councils to the Finance Committees and the Quality of Life Committees of municipalities.
In its statement, the competent ministry says that the existing legislation is currently in force, as it has not yet been legally served with the relevant decision.
However, he assures that he will study the decision «in order to explore the possibilities of strengthening the effective governance of Local Authorities after the adoption of this decision».
However, he does not fail to attack SYRIZA for «disastrous consequences of its governance that unfortunately still haunt us», while noting that the government, in cooperation with the Local Government, «will work to ensure that citizens continue to receive uninterrupted and effective services from the Local Government».
