Today's development brings the following «firsts». It is the first time that a party, which was elected second in elections (SYRIZA-PS) loses the position of the main opposition during a parliamentary session. PASOK-Minema Aliasi, which has 31 MPs, has the smallest parliamentary group as an opposition party since 1974. After the memorandum era, when more than 50 MPs had moved from the parties with which they were elected, the current Parliament has 32 MPs (21 independents and 11 from the New Left), who do not represent the parties with which they were elected in June 2023.
The assumption of the role of the opposition by PASOK brings about some changes in the privileges it now has in parliament, such as the move of the party's chairman N. Androulakis to the office of the leader of the opposition, the increase of its temporary employees and their parallel reduction in SYRIZA-PS.
More important, however, is the right of Mr.Androulakis to speak after the Prime Minister, while he is now considered the 4th state actor, after the offices of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament.
