The accident that happened yesterday in Chora (fortunately only with abrasions for the child) showed that the demand of the residents and professionals (we have submitted a request for 280 signatures) for the amendment of the PD and characterization of the main road as a pedestrian street, is the solution to the legality of the prohibition of vehicle traffic and the safety of visitors.
The wrong “reading” of the Deputy Mayor in charge and his order to remove all the signs in Country and Capsule would have led the visitors' walk on the main road to a chaotic and dangerous situation. (We residents and business people will react strongly).
If there are black spots in the implementation of the laws (transport study), we are not to blame, but certainly not the Deputy Mayor.
Already with the previous intervention of the Municipality (to remove the mobile barrier from the entrance of the country) so that there is easy access for taxis to the square's plaza (because the taxi drivers were tired of opening the barrier). It has made the walk to the square very dangerous for visitors.
We have been waiting patiently for so many years for a city council resolution that would call for an amendment to the PD and the designation of Main Street as a pedestrian street. It is very difficult but not impossible. The battle we did not win is the one we did not fight.
After yesterday's incident I ask.
If there had been the barrier as before, would the child have been in danger???
Of course not.
But the insistence of the responsible Deputy Mayor to “implement” the law is defiantly exhausted in terms of the country in point.... empathy.
(We don't forget that last year 4/8 sent the police to remove the tables from the outside of the square. In the thick of the season).
The same with Feloti. (The sign that should have already been put up warning visitors about the unsuitability of the road for vehicles is gone)
Worse yet, he brought down an archaeology official to look at the situation and asked for the agency's permission for the local backfilling that needs to be done immediately.
That is, live “May you eat clover” , and pass the time with our weapon of legality.
But if we search the whole island, we will find a “rivalry” where one village nails the other one regarding “illegal use”. Is this what some people are after?
Catalyst in both cases was once again the Mayor who in the cork took out a press release of unsuitability of the road (the sign looking for the sign between .. two Deputy Mayors) And today with a verbal order to remain the signs as they have so far, the problem is postponed.
But if this sterile and provocative behavior by the “legitimate” responsible person continues, we will be forced to demand (as a group of citizens) his dismissal from the Municipality.
It does not express us.
He does not discuss.
It cannot be “absolute” and biased in our general interest.
Mayor, we thank you and we expect from you actions that will ensure the smooth course of the Municipality and the citizens.
Finally, in case our two councillors (one of them holds the position of Deputy Mayor and the other the position of President of the Port Fund) are not listened to, as well as the position of our President, we will urge and support them strongly to submit their resignation from the public.
