Stefanos Tsitsipas achieved another difficult victory, this time with an upset, at the Cincinnati Open.
The top tennis player of all time in Greece overcame the Italian Lorenzo Sonego 2-1 (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) and secured the «ticket» for the quarter-finals of the tournament.
There he will face the amazing Felix Ozer-Aliassim, who after an excellent performance won 6-4, 6-3 against the finalist of this year's Wimbledon, Mateo Berettini.
It was Alyasim's first win in three matches against the world No.8 and the sixth in his career against an opponent ranked in the top ten of the ATP.
It took Tsitsipas a little more than 2 hours to break the resistance of the highly competitive Sonego, in order to «lock» his 13th appearance in the quarterfinals this season.
The 23-year-old champion finished the match with 78% in points earned on the first serve, but also a very high 68% on the second. The only problem with his performance was that he only managed to get two of his 10 total break points.
Now, against the 21-year-old Canadian, Alyasim, he will seek to advance to the semifinals in a showdown scheduled to start at 2 a.m. on Saturday.
