Relations between Mimi Denisi and the Attica Region, prompted by the actress's statements about the destruction of the film's sets, «My beloved Smyrna» in Faliro. A disaster that Ms. Denisi blames on Attica Region and personally to Mr. Patouli.
In a recent interview on ANT1's morning show, the actress revealed that she had suggested that the film sets (which were faithful replicas of the Smyrna waterfront) be converted into a theme park and thus remain where they were built.
«In Faliro, there was a huge set worth a million dollars that covered the entire beach. It was a true representation of the port of Smyrna, and we said that the boats and ships should be real, not just special effects,» he said.
«The set was destroyed. We don't live in a country where our politicians understand that this would be a... This was a great theme park that could have been built more solidly, with two or three cafés,» added Mimi Denisi.
When asked by Giorgos Liagas if she had suggested it, the actress said: Of course I suggested it, many ministers came and saw it and were thrilled. This belonged to the Region. Apparently, the Regional Governor did not consider it important enough to keep.»,
«The George Patoulis;» asked Giorgos Liagas, and Mimi Denisi replied, «Yes, that's the one we have.».
The Region's response
In response to Mimi Denisi's statements, the Region of Attica issued a statement emphasizing its contribution to the financing and support of the film, expressing «surprise at Ms. Denisi's claims.» As for the complaint about the destruction of the set, it merely stated that «no written proposal for the use of the film set was ever submitted to its services.».
The following is the announcement from the Region of Attica.
«In response to statements made by Ms. Mimis Denisi Regarding the set erected within the construction site where the redevelopment works of Faliro Bay are being carried out for the needs of the film «My Beloved Smyrna,» the Region of Attica notes the following:
The Region of Attica, recognizing the powerful symbolism of the film «My Beloved Smyrna» and the need to highlight the tragic historical events of that period for the Greeks of Asia Minor, actively contributed to the filming of the movie.
In this context, the Region of Attica:
- It provided financial support amounting to €124,000, including VAT, for the production of the film.
- He made available the space within the construction site where the redevelopment of the Faliro Bay is being carried out in order to shoot the film.
- Provided equipment to set up the space so that filming could proceed smoothly.
- He collaborated with the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) to provide electricity for the filming needs.
- It should be noted that the Region of Attica never refused to assist with anything requested by the film's production team, while no written proposal for the use of the film set was ever submitted to its services.
Given all of the above, we are surprised by Ms. Denisi's claims.»
