The words described in the following text and the movement depicted in the following photos are a sign of protest and dissatisfaction of our Recreational Cultural Association “Orange”, for the meaningless, pointless and violent cutting of a tree in the summer of 2020 in Karavas Kythera.
It is a rare pine species, Casuarina equisetifolia - Casuarina Australian pine (Casuarina equisetifolia or Casuarina equisetifolia).
The Casuarina is a fast-growing evergreen tree, reaching 15-23 metres and its foliage consists of long, pendulous green needles which remain on the tree throughout the year.
So, the Karavitic Casuarina tries in vain to re-grow as someone cuts and throws away all its new shoots. Let her grow!
And he said to the tree at its roots: «I love you! You support me, by you I grew up and reached the sky, and became great».
And the roots responded:
«We don't see the sun, we never saw it. Buried in the ground, buried in the earth. We thought the sun was You.».
This is what Takis Ktenas wrote about a big, strong tree with a rich crown whose shadow did not go unnoticed.
“And this tree, you guys,
At a bend of the Karava,
Jealous as you'll see
Who lost his crown early.
And the trunk grew smaller and smaller
For being so strong.
Pride of the whole village
And to leave the mind.
Let me grow up
And I will return the favor.
I'll make a shadow like that
Even if I turn orange”.
