After the cross-checks that «ran» the ADDE in the data it got hold of from the platforms identified 18,657 real estate registrations that either did not have a Property Registration Number (PRN) or the PRN that was electronically recorded was not valid.
These properties immediately «disappeared» from the platforms. After another cross-check, it identified thousands of taxpayers who had not declared the earnings they had received in 2017 and 2018.
In total, the tax office sent more than 50,000 letters with taxes exceeding €53 million.
For owners and managers of Airbnb-type properties that are not registered in the Short-Term Rental Property Register, fines start at €5,000 and go up to €20,000.
From 1 January 2024, the «bells» are bigger as a separate fine is imposed per year equal to 50% of the gross revenue of the tax year in which the infringement is committed, which cannot be less than 5,000 euros.
For non-submission or submission of an inaccurate Short Term Residence Declaration, the fine is equal to twice the rent as it appears in the digital platform and in case of late Short Term Residence Declaration, an independent administrative fine of 100 euros is imposed.
