Here is an informative note of the candidate Regional Councillor Savvas N. Athanasiou with the combination «Atticus Circle of Cooperation and Confidence» with candidate Regional Governor George Ioakimidis.
«Following my contacts on the issue of the sea connection with conventional ships from Piraeus to Methana and Poros, I would like to inform you of the following:
In my contact with Mr. Joseph I. Lefakis of Nova Ferries (Saronic Ferries), he assured me that he has no objection to the consortium's ships operating more routes to Methana and Poros, except on weekends.
However, he would like to make two moves:
The first is to have a specific proposal from all the bodies (Municipality, associations) on which days and times there is a need to run the conventional ferries.
The second is to be invited by the relevant Directorate of the Shipping Department of the Ministry of Shipping and discuss the issue. I reiterated to Joseph I. Lefakis that the residents of Methana, Troizinia and Poros have been asking for a daily connection to the islands and to Aegina. I also mentioned to him my proposal for the subsidy of the line, Methana - Aegina, through European funds.
Mr.Joseph I. Lefakis, pointed out to me that a ship is not being launched to cover the transport needs of a bus of the KTEL, since the fuel costs are enormous.
However, he committed to respond positively, provided that the two conditions are met.
I then contacted the Secretary General of the Ministry of Shipping, Mr.Evangelos Kyriazopoulos and informed him about the situation that has developed in the Saronic Gulf with the ships and asked him to address the issue and take the initiative of the Shipping Directorate of the Ministry of Shipping.
Finally, I will inform today the regional authorities and the mayors, so that there is a common position on the issue of the routes.
SAVVAS N. ATHANASIOS
