Emotional Farewell at Kythira Hospital as Surgeon Paraskevas Tseminidis Steps Down

A tribute event honoring his 16 years of service to «Trifyllio» and the community of Kythira

In a particularly emotional atmosphere, on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 15, in the courtyard of the Kythira General Hospital – «Trifyllio» Health Center, a farewell ceremony was held to honor general surgeon Paraskevas Tseminidis as he retired from active service.

Mr. Tseminidis served continuously for 16 years at the Kythira Hospital, providing medical care to the island’s residents and visitors.

The hospital administrator, Theodoros G. Koukoulis, the cardiologist and director of the Medical Service, Gabriel Psaras, Head of Nursing Services Maria Kalligerou, and Father Petros Mariatos, representing the Metropolitan of Kythira.

Charalambos Michalakakis also delivered a greeting on behalf of the people of Kythira, who have benefited from Mr. Tseiminidis’s invaluable services over the years.

The speakers highlighted the scope and quality of the doctor’s contributions to the hospital, the medical profession, and the local community, expressing their gratitude for his many years of service and his work. At the same time, they expressed the hope that a worthy successor would be found to fill the significant void left by his departure.

During the event, a message from Dr. Emmanouil G. Kalokairinos—a physician, fellow countryman, and former president of the Panhellenic Medical Association—was read aloud.

Visibly moved, Paraskevas Tseiminidis thanked those present in his response, the hospital staff, and all the people of Kythira for the love and appreciation they had shown him, emphasizing that he would never forget the bond he had formed with the island and its people.

The hospital director then presented the honored doctor with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his invaluable service over 16 consecutive years in Kythira.

In addition to the hospital staff, the event was attended by Fathers Petros Mariatos, Panagiotis Megalokonomos, and Panagiotis Diakopoulos, Lazaros Vezos, a member of the hospital’s Board of Directors; Deputy Mayor Panagiotis Zantiotis; the publisher of the newspaper «Kythiraika,» Emmanouil Kalligeros, Dr. Kosmas Megalokonomos, former hospital employees, and a large number of residents from various parts of the island.

The event was filmed by Valerios and Renata Kalokairinou, while Sotiris Tassos handled the microphone equipment and technical support. Seating for the audience was provided by the Potamos Cultural Association, following an initiative by its president, Anargyros Sofios.

The administration of the Kythira Hospital expressed its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the organization and successful execution of the tribute event.
