In 6.079 euros last year (2019 incomes) the highest individual annual income for the lowest-income population of the country, while for the highest-income population the lowest individual annual income was EUR 12 315.
This follows from the ELSTAT survey for the social inequality in the country, which ranks the individuals in the population in ascending order of income (from lowest to highest) and then divides the population into four equal parts (based on the total number of individuals).
Specifically:
- The 25% of the population in the 1st quartile, with the lowest income, holds 10.4% of the total national disposable income, stable compared to 2019.
- The 25% of the population in the 4th quartile, with the highest income, holds 45% of the total national disposable income, up 0.1 percentage point from 2019.
- The 50% of the population in the 2nd and 3rd quartile, with middle incomes, hold 44.6% of national disposable income, down 0.1 percentage point compared to 2019.
