Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the Ukrainian people, expressing his disappointment that «the West has left Ukraine to fight on its own.» The Ukrainian president added that he is willing to speak with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, regarding the terms of surrender set out earlier in a statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
In his message, the Ukrainian president referred to his discussions with Western allies and emphasized: «Today I asked the 27 leaders of the European Union when Ukraine will join NATO. They were all afraid; no one answered.» «But we are not afraid,» he asserted, stressing that he would defend his country.
Mr. Zelenskyy said that 137 people have been killed so far since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president referred to Putin’s conditions for Ukraine’s surrender. As Mr. Zelenskyy emphasized, «We are willing to discuss a neutral status, since we are not part of NATO,» adding, however, that he is concerned about the guarantees he will receive and which countries will provide them.
«We have received information that enemy sabotage groups have entered Kyiv,» he said in his recorded address, which was posted on the Ukrainian presidency’s website, calling on the capital’s residents to remain vigilant and comply with the curfew that has been imposed.
At the same time, he noted that He and his family are Russia's primary targets. «According to our information, the enemy considers me their number one target. My family is their number-two target. They want to politically destroy Ukraine by eliminating the head of state. We have information that enemy sabotage groups have entered Kyiv,» adding that «I am staying in the government district along with others.».
Zelenskyy announced a general mobilization
