June turned out to be a month of high returns for the cruise industry in Chania as both ship arrivals and the number of passengers were at high levels.
At the same time, in June in Chania and in the cruise sector, a record number of cruise ship arrivals for one day and a record number of passengers, while in two arrivals the number of passengers exceeded 3,300.
«Chania “win” and »win" in quantity and quality by highlighting the dynamics and in this sector," commented to RES - MPE the president of the Port Commission Dimitris Virirakis.
At the same time, he referred to the effort to improve the infrastructure of the port of Souda and the major project concerning the construction of a modern passenger station in Souda.
The records of June
Specifically and according to data collected by the AP-MPA, in Chania from 1 to 27 June cruise passengers were 30,765 and ship arrivals 22.
This number increases with the arrival on the last day of the month of a ship with a large passenger capacity.
On 20 June, a record number of passenger arrivals were recorded, with three ferries and a total of 7,355 passengers.
Most daily cruise ships called on 21 June. A total of 4 ships, of which three in the port of Souda and one in the Venetian port of Chania, with a total of 4,833 passengers.
On 25 June, the 340-metre-long «Disney Dream» with 3,484 passengers arrived in Souda, while the same ship with 3,376 passengers had also arrived on 16 June.
Arrivals and scheduling
The cruise in Chania is developing positively as in May 2023 arrived in Chania 19 cruise ships (17 in Souda, 2 in the Venetian Port with 33,500 passengers, while in April with 9 arrivals passengers were 8,100.
The figures of scheduled arrivals «bring» in July in Chania 12 cruise ships, in August 13, in September 13, in October 20, in November 12 and December 3.
