in the summer of 1952, a group of young officers stage a coup in Egypt and overthrow Farouk of Egypt,
a ridiculous subject,
who only knew how to eat,
hitting on little girls
and eating his country's money
………………………………………..
the leader of this movement was a very great man, one of the greatest Arab leaders of the world,
Gamal Abdel Nasser,
which has since become an example for all the revolutionaries of Africa, the Middle East and the whole world.
………………………………………..
Nasser from childhood had a strong sense of pride and love for his country.
a country that saw itself exploited by ridiculous subjects like Farouk
and
of course the English colonialists
………………………………………..
He took part in many anti-colonial demonstrations as a child and as a young man
………………………………………..
He first studied law and later entered the Cairo Military Academy
………………………………………..
His speech was so fiery and his personality was so leader-like that he gathered around him, almost from the beginning,
at the military academy,
many of his classmates, who believed him and joined him in the coup
………………………………………..
They named their organisation Free Officers and in July 1952, they overthrew Farouk and Colonel Nasser took power.
………………………………………..
He immediately declared Egypt a republic and shortly afterwards a socialist state.
………………………………………..
reforms began with the distribution of land to poor farmers,
with industrialisation of the country and expansion of arable land.
………………………………………..
But somewhere in there things got complicated because the land requires water to become arable and fertile.
and although there was the Nile, the arable land was specific
………………………………………..
and that's when he got the big idea.
to build a dam that would collect the water and from there he could dispose of it wherever he wanted
………………………………………..
the Westerners at first agreed to help, but once they realized that Nasser,
not manipulated and that they are dealing with a serious leader they threatened him that,
nor will they fund his project,
nor will they give him expertise and machinery
………………………………………..
then Nasser, who did not chew, drove the English out of Egypt and nationalized the Suez Canal.
………………………………………..
We are talking about the largest canal in the world,
the most serious commercial and strategic hub and a base that the English have occupied since it was built and that has paid off a lot, a lot of money.
………………………………………..
The English and the French roared at this nationalization and in 1956,
launched an attack on Egypt with aerial bombing and parachute drops,
while
have come to an understanding with their best ally in the Middle East, Israel,
which also invaded the Sinai Peninsula with its tanks.
………………………………………..
is the infamous Suez crisis, but it brought the opposite results
………………………………………..
The whole world was outraged by these outrages and so the bombing stopped, and the Israelis withdrew.
………………………………………..
It was finally a political victory that elevated Nasser in the eyes of the world
………………………………………..
Especially in the Arab world and in Africa, his name became legendary.
and the world worshipped him as a god
………………………………………..
But Nasser didn't care about laurels, he wanted to achieve much more,
so
on the one hand, it was the fault of a federation with Syria, Yemen and Iraq
and on the other hand, he approached the Soviet Union which reached out to him
………………………………………..
the Soviets helped him finish the Aswan Dam
and to build a hydroelectric power plant
………………………………………..
Egypt is no longer the same.
a man with vision brought it out of its slumber and put it on the road to progress
………………………………………..
and things didn't stop there.
Industrialisation accelerated, reforms were implemented that favoured farmers and the position of women improved significantly.
………………………………………..
Until we came to the 6-day war between the Israelis and the Americans,
militarily flattened not only Egypt, but all the allied Arab states
………………………………………..
that's where it all ended
………………………………………..
Nasser wanted to resign out of shame but huge demonstrations of the people would not let him,
so he remained president of Egypt
………………………………………..
But his health had been seriously compromised
could not for the life of him swallow defeat,
so
On this day, September 28, 1970, his heart gave out and this great leader passed away.
