Today, Monday, the three new Metro stations of Piraeus, «Maniatika», «Piraeus» and «Municipal Theatre», open their gates to the public.
At 10:30 am the inauguration of the three stations will take place, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the station «Municipal Theatre» and at 2 pm they will be put into commercial operation to serve the passenger public.
This is a long-awaited fixed-track project, which, after a long delay, is expected to change the image of the city, giving breath to the traffic problem of Piraeus.
With the operation of the new stations, a daily increase in total passenger traffic on the Metro network of 132,000 people per day is foreseen, reducing both the traffic of private vehicles by 23,000 per day and carbon dioxide emissions by 120 tonnes per day. The total time from the port to the airport will be covered by Metro in just 55 minutes.
In total, Line 3 «Municipal Theatre - Dukissis Plakentias - Airport» now has 27 stations, with the distance from the port to the airport estimated at just 55 minutes.
It is recalled that from tomorrow, Tuesday 11 October, the redesign of bus lines in the wider Piraeus area will come into effect, aiming at the interoperability of the road transport network with the new stations of Line 3 of the Metro.
For more information, passengers can call the OASA information centre 11185. At the same time, all information on the timetables of Metro Line 3, as they will be formed from today, Monday 10 October 2022, is posted on the website of STA.SY.(www.stasy.gr).
