For «promiscuity and the labour galley» denounces the company Jumbo ο Association of Commercial Employees of Athens, on the occasion of the new 26-page rules of procedure which was approved and saw the light of day.
This, among other things, as stated in a statement of the S.E.A., provides that the company has the right to move an employee to any point of the Greek territory, gives a new interpretation of what is working time since it removes the break and even the change of clothes, chooses when the employees will take leave, provides for a ¼ of the salary reduction as a fine for «violations» and gives the green light for filing employees, consumers and suppliers.
Complaint: The well-known Mr. #jumbo he struck again! By by-law he wants to define the leave, work store (nationwide!), hours, time & salary of employees based on his profits!
PS. For the #8hour that looks like a 5-hour period we'll be back#Rally_16December pic.twitter.com/tewUhE35Iz- Athens Trade Employees Association (@sea1891) December 14, 2021
In detail, the announcement of the S.E.A., states:
On the ratification of the Internal Labour Regulations of the staff of the Company «JUMBO ANONYMIH EΠOPPIKH ETAIRIKH ETAIRPEIA»
Always one step ahead of the employer's impunity Mr. 7-day - 12-hour!
Labour galley and promiscuity, this is reflected in the 26 pages of jumbo's internal labour regulations, which were recently ratified and are an integral part of the miserable individual employment contracts that thousands of workers employed by the company are forced to accept.
It is an internal work regulation that confirms our dozens of complaints and at the same time reveals the momentum that the employers have taken in crushing our labour rights by stepping on the dozens of anti-labour laws that have been passed in recent years by all governments, most recently the monstrosity Hatzidakis.
According to these work rules, the company can:
- Based on Article 14, paragraph 1b. to determine the place of work, to move and second any employee from the department or branch or establishment in which he/she works to another department or branch or generally to a position of the same or relevant speciality within the boundaries of the Greek territory! That is, this month Athens, the next month Thessaloniki.
- On the basis of Article 15, paragraph 1, to determine the duration of the daily and weekly working hours, the starting and ending times of the working day, the working holidays of its staff and the system of work. Paragraph 3 of the same article states that the working time shall be deemed to be exclusively that during which the employees perform the actual service assigned to them. In other words, working hours will be rubber-stamped according to the employer's convenience, within which the break, preparation (change of clothing, etc.) does not fit.
- Based on Article 18, para. 1, the time and order of partial leave (summer and winter) is determined by the Company! And the leave of the employees as it suits the employer and he makes sure to make this clear to us in various parts of the text so that there are no misunderstandings.
- Based on Article 33, the company has the status of “Data Controller“. This means that it can track employees, consumers and suppliers in any way it wants.
- Under Article 46, the company may, in addition to reprimands and reprimands, impose a fine ”on the offender - employee” by deducting up to 1/4 of his/her monthly salary.
All of the above is just a small sample of what is envisaged in this labour cage that handcuffs the workers. Therefore, we can only take as a bad joke what is mentioned in the annex to these by-laws on the prevention and handling of incidents of violence and harassment at work and the management of internal complaints.
Because violence is the specific labour regulation according to which the employer can determine the working hours, working time, holidays and wages of thousands of workers on the sole criterion of profit.
Violence is forcing workers to live on pocket money wages in the insecurity of part-time, fixed-term contracts.
Violence is to squeeze young children, students, women who need a living wage through 15-day contracts during certain periods (school, holidays, summer, etc.) and throw them to the unemployment line.
Violence is having the right to move workers around the Greek territory.
We can disable their laws and regulations through our collective, mass struggle. Organised in our union we can demand human hours, decent wages, stable work. We can isolate every phenomenon of violence that feeds on the rottenness of our brutal exploitation.
