The title «Greece is not an enemy, it is a neighbour», bear the article-viewpoint of Ege Cansen, published on Thursday, 07/10, in the newspaper «Sozju».
The article focuses on the nationalist tug-of-war that revolves around the rhetoric developed by both the ruling AKP and the opposition CHP, with a focus on Greek-Turkish relations.
The author, after making a historical review of the beginnings of the coexistence of Turks and Greeks in the lands of Asia Minor, states that the coexistence of the two nationalities inevitably gave rise to tensions and friction, but this should not be an excuse for an ongoing conflict.
«Look at France and Germany,» he notes. «Over the centuries they have fought each other many times, but that has not prevented them from joining hands, which translated into the creation of the European Union.».
Greece is our garden. Let us keep it clean
In the same vein, Cansen urges his readers not to embrace the «nonsense» of Greece invading Turkey, with the militarized islands as a battering ram. «Is it possible that a nation of 12 million wants to attack us from the islands? Obviously they are doing it (militarizing them) because they are afraid that we will attack them,» he stresses. He concludes by saying that it is Turkey's responsibility, as the most powerful of the two parties, to lead the relations between the two countries to a stable peace. «This tension is meaningless, on the contrary, it is the main problem Turkey has to solve in its foreign policy,» he concludes.
