Saint Catherine in Kythera

From Eleni Charou's blog.

Saint Catherine is honored in the churches of Kythira

  • Saint Catherine in Sparagario
  • Saint Catherine in Alexandrades
  • Saint Catherine in Mylopotamos, at Kontou's Lagkadi
  • Agia Aikaterini, below Tzakonos' Eyebrows, in the Viaradikon area
  • Saint Catherine in the Paliochora area

These monuments date back to the 17th century, and some of them are cave churches, such as the church at Sparagario and the one at Kontou Lagkadi. The church at Sparagario is situated in a breathtaking location, with the Castle looming above it and, below, the beautiful lagadi that flows out onto Sparagario Beach. The cave is small, much like the nearby Cave of Saint Paul, and was documented and mapped by the Kythirian speleologist Ioannis Petrocheilos in 1954.
