The mayor of Kythera Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis participated in a teleconference with the Minister of Environment, to whom he raised a number of issues of interest to the municipality of Kythera. As the mayor informs us through his personal Facebook account: «...the following issues were discussed:
1. Accelerate urban planning. I asked for the Municipality of Kythera to join the first group of municipalities where Local Spatial Plans will be implemented.
2. Proposals for wind farms. I have informed the Minister that the local community is opposed to the creation of the pharaonic wind farms, which were originally sited on land in the Inherent Property without the consent of local authorities. I have proposed the implementation of small/medium scale energy solutions, such as the hybrid energy autonomy project prepared for Antikythera with the cooperation of the Municipality, the National Observatory and the University of West Attica.
3. Forest maps. The posting of the revised maps is expected, which has been delayed in relation to the announcements and there will be a meeting with the responsible Deputy Minister Mr. George Amyras for the issues raised.
4. Water management. I analysed to the Minister our innovative proposal for the mandatory construction of domestic rainwater tanks in every new building permit, a proposal that the Minister committed to examine further, stating the Government's intention to intervene substantially in water resource management issues on the islands.».
