The four Greek systemic banks posted strong profits during the first half of 2026, with their total profits exceeding 2.5 billion euros.
According to a report by efsyn.gr, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece, Piraeus Bank, and Alpha Bank collected a total of approximately 4.2 billion euros in interest and an additional 1.4 billion euros in fees and services.
The company with the highest profitability was Eurobank, with adjusted net income of 776 million euros. Interest income totaled 1.349 billion euros, and fee income totaled 414 million euros. At the same time, the bank’s management revised its full-year forecasts upward.
Η National Bank of Greece reported after-tax profits of 661 million euros, with a return on tangible equity of 15.5%. Interest income totaled 1.048 billion euros, while commission income amounted to 236 million euros.
The company posted record profits Piraeus Bank, with profits of 617 million euros and a return on tangible equity of 16%. Net interest income reached 990 million euros, while fee and commission income amounted to 462 million euros, up 52% year-over-year.
Η Alpha Bank reported net profits of 497.2 million euros, having already achieved more than half of its annual target. Interest income totaled 853 million euros, and fee income amounted to 326.5 million euros. The bank also plans to pay an interim dividend of approximately 124 million euros to its shareholders in the fourth quarter.
The results confirm that the major Greek banks continue to generate significant revenue from both interest rate spreads and banking fees, thereby maintaining their profitability at particularly high levels.
