During the period of Interwar Period, the first one was set up Weather Station in Kythera. It was housed at the Castle, at the observation point atop the fortress’s acropolis—the most strategic location due to its position and visibility—which has always been considered one of the most strategic points in the southern Aegean.
In 1930, the Inspector of Meteorological Stations, Konstantinos Pileidis, completely renovated it, and equipped it with new instruments. The observations were transmitted daily by radio to Athens.
One of the last, if not the very last, to broadcast the Station's reports on a daily basis was Theodoros Aronis, an employee at National Bank of Greece.
In the 1950s, it had been abandoned, and the large Meteorological Station building was constructed in Chora.
Until recent years, traces of the installation of the station's instruments were still visible on the walls of the observatory.
Today, it stands in ruins.
