The Athens Stock Exchange is on a strong upward trend in the last trading session of the week, with the General Index making an impressive jump and comfortably breaking through the psychological and technical threshold of 2,400 points, recording new high for 2026.
The domestic market appears to be gaining strong momentum, leaving behind the stagnation of recent months and reaching levels not seen since early February.
The Driving Forces Behind the Rise
The current positive outlook for Athens Avenue is driven by a combination of domestic and international developments:
«Decoding» the ECB: Yesterday’s decision by the European Central Bank to raise interest rates had already been priced in by the market, reducing uncertainty and allowing buyers to take action.
Geopolitical de-escalation: The investment climate is being significantly bolstered by expectations of diplomatic progress on the Middle East front, a development that is also reflected in the parallel decline in international oil prices.
