Before the Prosecutor, will be led on Wednesday, 23/06, the 35 year old man who was arrested in the area of New Philadelphia, for the rape and abuse of a 50-year-old cleaning lady last Saturday, at the Petralona.
The man, a national of Bulgaria, had found shelter in the streets of New Philadelphia, where he pretended to be a beggar in order to muddy the waters. It is unclear whether this choice has anything to do with the fact that people in his circle did not offer him cover after the felony he committed. However, reports indicate that police officers handcuffed a second person for aiding and abetting a criminal.
The 35-year-old was prisoner which made Wages in prison Grevena, until his release from prison in 2020. More specifically, the 35-year-old Bulgarian had imprisoned in 2015, when he was arrested on August 17 of that year on charges of raping a 22-year-old girl, attempted murder against her, dangerous bodily harm, animal cruelty, threatening and disorderly conduct. He was released on August 13, 2020 under the previous criminal code based on the decision by the Grevena Plenary Council that examined his application for release, which is known to ethnos.gr.
Sentenced to a total of imprisonment 12 years old, but was released from prison after serving 5 years, less than half of his sentence. The reasoning of the judgment specifically mentions the period during which he completed 1/3 of his sentence, one year before his release, with the following: «As shown in the Sentence Calculation Table, on 18-08-2019 he actually served one third of his sentence, i.e. a period of four years».
From the Council of the Plenary Court of Grevena for the release of the 35-year-old Bulgarian it is noted that: «The provisions of the previous PC on conditional dismissal apply to acts committed until the entry into force of the new PC, i.e. until 01-07-2019». However, while the rapist was a prisoner in the prison of Grevena, he earned a salary equal to almost 2.5 years of his sentence. Thus, in the reasoning of the release it is stated verbatim: «Taking into account the beneficial calculation of time served, it follows that on 22-05-2020 he has served a total of three-fifths of his sentence, i.e. a period of seven years, two months and 12 days. The remainder of the sentence remaining to be served is four years, seven months and 12 days.
Η application for release from prison of 35-year-old became Accepted, as the same document stresses: «Both the formal and substantive conditions for the granting of the requested compulsory redundancy are met’. In fact, he was released with the obligation to appear within the first five days of each month at the police station of his place of residence (Derigny Street, Petralona), as well as »the prohibition to leave the country until the end of his probation«.
«This particular prisoner had made repeated requests for release, when he had actually served 1/3 of his sentence. He was released on conditional release under Articles 105 and 110 of the Penal Code, which applies to all prisoner and not because of extraordinary decongestants provisions of any law. He was even released on the condition of parole, which provides that if he is found guilty he will serve the remainder of his remaining sentence (i.e. four years, seven months and 12 days) and then the sentence that will be imposed on him for the new offence he committed,» sources from the judiciary point out.
