The National Vaccination Committee meets today for the 3rd dose of the vaccine for people under 50 years old

The National Vaccination Committee is meeting today to discuss the administration of the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to those under 50 years of age, 6 months after the second dose.

As the Secretary General of Primary Health Care Marios Themistocleous said yesterday, during the briefing on the National Plan for Covid-19 vaccination coverage, «if the Commission gives the green light, then in the next few days announcements will be made and very soon the platform of appointments for younger age groups will be opened“.

He noted that on November 5, the appointment platform opens for people who have been vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson's mono-dose vaccine, so that after two months have passed from their vaccination date, they can make appointments for the booster dose. These citizens will be able to get the booster dose with either Johnson & Johnson or Pfizer vaccine, and in the coming days it will also be possible to get it with Moderna. Next week a reminder SMS will be sent to citizens who qualify for a third dose.

Course of vaccinations

The 12.9 million vaccinations were exceeded yesterday. More than 6,640,000 citizens have been vaccinated with one dose, i.e. 63.4% of the general population and 72.9% of the adult population. The corresponding EU average is 68.8% of the general population and 80.2% of the adult population.

Also, more than 6,380,000 citizens have completed their vaccination, i.e. 60.8% of the general population and 70.1% of the adult population. The corresponding EU average is 65.2% of the general population and 75% of the adult population. Greece ranks 16th in rolling average of 7 days, 16th in complete vaccinations and 15th in single dose vaccinations.

In the last 7 days, 60,000 citizens have made appointments for the first instalment and 94,000 for the third instalment.

Regarding the third dose, 350,000 citizens have been vaccinated so far.

The home vaccination programme has so far been applied for by 14,000 citizens and 12,500 citizens have been vaccinated, mainly by mobile units of the Health Centres.

Regarding private doctors, Themistocleous said that 250 have joined the programme, as well as 23 polyclinics and so far 4,000 vaccinations have been administered, including 1,520 in the clinics and 2,460 home vaccinations.
